Yesterday, at the 2016 World Credit Union Conference, held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, former Credit Union Central of Canada Board Chair, Daniel Burns, was elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the World Council of Credit Unions (World Council) for a one year term. This is the first time in over 10 years since a Canadian has held the World Council Chair position.
Along with Daniel Burns, Martha Durdin, President & CEO of the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA), will represent Canada’s credit unions on the Word Council Board. Ms. Durdin will be replacing Mr. Doug Stoddart who has served on the World Council Board for the last two years.

“On behalf of Canada’s credit unions, we congratulate Dan on this significant achievement,” said Martha Durdin, president & CEO, CCUA. “I also want to thank Doug Stoddart for his service on the World Council Board. He has been a strong champion for credit unions in Canada and in the global community. The Canadian credit union system is a strong supporter of the World Council and we look forward to continuing to raise the profile of credit unions on the international stage.”
