In August, members of Rorketon and Strathclair credit unions will vote on a proposal that would bring the two organization together under a new, umbrella organization.
Vern Gevers, who is currently serving as general manager of both credit unions, says the model is a new way of doing things. “It’s an innovative, cooperative solution that retains each credit union’s local identity while delivering significant new benefits to members that can be best achieved by working together.”
The umbrella organization would reduce duplication of efforts at the board and management levels, but for members very little would change.
“The model would bring about savings in back office and other functions, and the savings will be reinvested in the credit union and passed on to members in the form of rates, among other things,” he says.
Details about the proposal can be found at https://rorketonstrathclair.wordpress.com.
Information meetings will be held in four communities from July 12 to 18, with member voting slated for August 8 and 9.
To proceed, the proposal requires the approval of two-thirds of members of each credit union.
